Before a large crowd in the high school gymnasium, the senior class, 14
in number, of the Gold Beach Union High School, made their final bow to the
public as high school students and received their diplomas.
David C. Shaw was the speaker of the evening and aside from the invocation
and benediction delivery and recessional played by Betty Stansell, the balance
of the program was almost entirely by the seniors themselves.
Lee Lafferty made the introduction; Marjorie LeClair, valedictorian, the
welcome; a vocal solo, "Prayer Perfect," by Duane Baxter; Lynne Melville read
the class history; Leora Andrews, the class prophecy; Marie Hames, the class
will; William Wallace presented the gift and Virginia Knox, valedictorian, gave
the farewell.
The high school chorus sang "Here Am I," "Oh Jesus, I Have Promised," and
"Farewell to You." S. O. Newhouse, chairman of the school board, presented the
Legion awards, following which L. P. Sydow, principal, presented the class.
Chairman Newhouse then presented the diplomas to the graduating seniors.....
